The Venus of the Rytířská Cave

The Venus found in the Rytířská Cave (literary "Knightly Cave") is a rather unusual Venus figurine, being very thin and strongly elongated in shape, with a hanging loop at the top. This is probably mainly thanks to the material it is made of, which is (thin) animal bone. The Venus figurine is 16.5 cm long and is about 15,000 years old, so it dates back to the Magdalenian period.

It was found in the Rytířská Cave in the Moravian Karst. The Rytířská Cave is located in a slope of the Suchý žleb valley, very close to the Kateřinská Cave, which is open to the public, and not far from the Skalní mlýn ("Mill in the Rocks", paid car park) and the Punkevní Caves. On the way from the Kateřinská Cave, the Rytířská Cave can be found on the right side of the Suchý žleb valley. The Rytířská Cave lies off the designated paths, so it is inaccessible because walking is allowed only on designated paths in the protected landscape area.
